ALLEGRA PROJECTS is pleased to present this new body of work by Rebecca Ackroyd.
‘Scratching the surface’ addresses the notion of pause and reflection. By thematising the intimate act of compiling a diary, Ackroyd returns to her discourse through which daily rituals are highlighting the contemplation and reflection lying in the very nature of these habits. Ackroyd is fascinated by the procedural repetitiveness of such actions and how their recurring patterns of behaviour allow the subject to construct their own narrative, their own sense of reflection on life. The notion of scratching alludes to the physical act of carving out or creating, toying between the lines of physical and virtual means of forming, changing and carving one's own interpretations.
